As long as there are surfable waves coming in, you can surf just about anywhere in Maui. In the summer, the south- and west-facing beaches usually get the best surf. In the winter, look to the North Shore, as well as Honolua Bay.

To watch pro surfers in action, head to Honolua Bay and Hoʻokipa Beach near Lower Pāʻia during winter big wave season. East of Hoʻokipa, you'll find Maui's most famous surf spot for big wave surfing: Peʻahi, also known as "Jaws.” During big swells, surfers are towed into Peʻahi's massive waves by jet-skis.

Consequently, the north facing shores during the winter months can see waves of up to 30 feet. At certain breaks such as Peahi (aka “Jaws”), the waves can grow to over 70 feet during the largest swells of winter. At breaks such as Honolua Bay on the northwestern coastline of the island, 20 ft.
