As long as there are surfable waves coming in, you can surf just about anywhere in Maui. In the summer, the south- and west-facing beaches usually get the best surf. In the winter, look to the North Shore, as well as Honolua Bay.

To watch pro surfers in action, head to Honolua Bay and Hoʻokipa Beach near Lower Pāʻia during winter big wave season. East of Hoʻokipa, you'll find Maui's most famous surf spot for big wave surfing: Peʻahi, also known as "Jaws.” During big swells, surfers are towed into Peʻahi's massive waves by jet-skis.

It's also best to hit the waves in early morning or late afternoon when the winds are at their lightest. Some of the best spots on Maui to go surfing are on the south side of Maui: Ukumahame Beach, Guard Rails Beach or Launiupoko Beach.
